Burberry
Founded in England in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, Burberry was established with the aim of creating clothing designed to protect against the British weather. In 1879, the founder invented gabardine, a lightweight, breathable and weatherproof fabric that would become central to the brand’s heritage and later to the development of its iconic trench coat. Today, Chief Creative Officer Daniel Lee reinterprets this legacy through a contemporary perspective deeply rooted in British culture. Trench coats, outerwear, the Burberry Check and the Equestrian Knight Design sit alongside new proportions, accessories and techniques that refresh the House’s historic codes. Functionality remains integral to Burberry’s identity, together with material innovation and craftsmanship. The brand continues to express a distinctive British sensibility, bringing heritage and creativity into contemporary life.
