1. Definitions, types and scope of the applicable legislation
Cookies are small text files that the websites a user visits send to and store on their computer or mobile device, and that are then sent back to the same websites on the next visit. Thanks to cookies, a website remembers the user’s actions and preferences (for example login details, chosen language, country and currency, and products in the cart), so that they do not have to be entered again when the user returns to the site or moves from one page to another.
Cookies are used for authentication, session monitoring and storing information about the user’s activities while accessing a website. They may also contain a unique identifier that makes it possible to track the user’s browsing within the site for statistical or advertising purposes. Some operations could not be carried out without cookies, which in some cases are therefore technically necessary for the website to work.
In addition to cookies, the website uses similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage and session storage and tracking pixels, to which this same policy applies.
For more information about cookies and how they work, you can visit www.allaboutcookies.org.
Cookies may be placed directly by the website the user is visiting (so-called “first-party” cookies). While browsing, the user may also receive cookies from websites or servers other than the one being visited (so-called “third-party” cookies): this happens when the website contains elements such as images, maps, sounds, links to pages on other domains or social network widgets.
Cookies can remain on the device for different periods: session cookies are deleted automatically when the browser is closed; persistent cookies remain on the device until a set expiry date.
Under applicable law (Article 122 of Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003 and the Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) of 10 June 2021), the user’s consent is not always required. In particular, it is not required for technical cookies, i.e. those used solely to carry out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.
Technical cookies, which do not require consent, include:
- browsing or session cookies, used to log in, manage the cart and complete a purchase;
- functionality cookies, which allow the user to browse according to selected criteria (for example language, country or currency) in order to improve the service provided;
- first-party analytics cookies, used to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the website;
- third-party analytics cookies, where tools are adopted that reduce the identifying power of the cookies and the third party does not combine the information collected with other information it already holds.
Profiling cookies, which are designed to create profiles of the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed while browsing, require the user’s prior consent. Consent is also required for third-party analytics cookies where no tools are adopted to reduce their identifying power, or where the third party combines the information collected with other information it already holds.
2. Which cookies we use and how to manage them
Our website uses different types of cookies and similar technologies, each with a specific function. You can also browse the website while rejecting non-necessary cookies, with no restrictions on purchases.
The website uses the CMP (Consent Management Platform) provided by Cookiebot by Usercentrics (Cookiebot DPA), which detects and stores users’ preferences regarding the collection, use and processing of their personal information, as required by applicable law. The website also uses Google Consent Mode v2: until the user gives consent, Google services do not store statistics or advertising cookies on the device.
The full list of cookies used is given in section 4 and in the banner shown when the website is opened. You can review or change your consent at any time via the icon at the bottom of every page of the website or the link in section 4.
The categories of cookies used and their function are set out below.
Necessary cookies
Necessary cookies ensure normal browsing and use of the website, for example by enabling the cart, checkout and account area, remembering country, language and currency, identifying bots and protecting the website from attacks. They are technical cookies, essential for the website to work, and do not require consent.
Providers of this service include Shopify (e-commerce platform and Shop Pay), Cloudflare (security), Kiwi Sizing (size guide), LangShop (language and currency) and Cookiebot by Usercentrics (consent storage).
Preference cookies
Preference cookies allow the website to remember information that changes the way it behaves or looks, in order to offer a personalised browsing experience. They are only placed with your consent.
Providers of this service include Swym (wishlist), Klarna (pay in instalments) and Trustpilot (reviews widget).
Analytics and statistics cookies
The website uses analytics and statistics cookies to collect and process information on how users browse, the number of visits and the pages viewed, in order to improve the website’s usability, functionality and interface. These cookies are only placed with your consent.
Providers of this service include Google (Google Analytics 4) and Shopify (Shopify Analytics). As these providers are based or have infrastructure outside the European Economic Area, the data collected may be transferred outside the EU, subject to the safeguards provided for in Chapter V of the GDPR (adequacy decisions, including the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, or Standard Contractual Clauses).
Marketing cookies
Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites, in order to display ads that are relevant and engaging for the individual user and to measure the effectiveness of campaigns. They help us understand users’ preferences so that, while browsing, we can offer them targeted content based on their previous interactions with the website. They are only placed with your consent.
The website uses third-party technologies to link visit information collected by the website with information from third-party accounts that users are logged into, for the purpose of personalising ads.
Providers of this service include Google (Google Ads), Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, Pinterest and Shopify. As several providers are based or have infrastructure outside the European Economic Area, the data collected may be transferred outside the EU, subject to the safeguards provided for by applicable law.
Klaviyo
The website uses Klaviyo, an email marketing platform of Klaviyo Inc. (USA), to display newsletter sign-up forms and, with your consent, to link your browsing on the website to your subscriber profile, so that we can send you more relevant communications (for example about products you have viewed).
For more information on how Klaviyo collects and uses data, please see the Klaviyo Privacy Notice.
3. Managing cookies
When you visit the website, a banner explains the types of cookies used. The banner lets you accept all cookies, reject all non-necessary cookies with an equally prominent button, or choose by category. Closing the banner without making a choice counts as a rejection. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time via the icon at the bottom of every page of the website.
Your choices are kept for 12 months; the banner will not be shown to you again before then, unless there are significant changes to the cookies used or to the purposes of processing. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
In addition to the banner, you can manage cookies directly from your browser settings. Most browsers accept cookies automatically. You can change these settings to block cookies or to be alerted every time they are sent to your device, and you can delete stored cookies at the end of each browsing session. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent the cart and checkout from working properly.
If you use different devices to access the website (for example a computer, smartphone or tablet), make sure that the browser on each device is set according to your cookie preferences.
For detailed management of cookies related to behavioural advertising, you can change your preferences at www.youronlinechoices.com.
Instructions for managing cookies in the main browsers:
If you use a different browser, look for “cookies” in your browser’s help section.
With regard to the data collected through cookies, you can exercise the rights provided for in Articles 15–22 of the GDPR by writing to privacy@julian-fashion.com, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).
