Pleats Please Issey Miyake
PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE grew from Issey Miyake’s research into pleating, begun in the late 1980s and transformed into an independent project in 1994. Its fundamental innovation lies in pleating the garment after it has been cut and sewn, creating elastic, lightweight surfaces that naturally follow movement. Specially developed fabrics make dresses, trousers, tops and jackets easy to wear, washable and suited to everyday life. Pleating therefore becomes not only an aesthetic element but a true design technology. PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE continues Miyake’s idea of functional, free and dynamic clothing, where design, colour and textile innovation come together to create recognizable pieces designed to last.
