Junya Watanabe
Technical experimentation and the constant transformation of wardrobe codes define the work of Junya Watanabe. Born in Japan in 1961 and trained at Bunka Fashion College, the designer presented the first collection under his own name in 1992 and arrived in Paris the following year. His approach often begins with garment construction: fabrics, volumes, seams and functional details are analysed and recomposed in unexpected ways. Tailoring, denim, outerwear and technical materials become fields of research through patchwork, layering and complex structures. Even when working with immediately recognizable archetypes, Junya Watanabe alters their proportions and function, creating a language where craftsmanship and innovation coexist. The result is conceptual yet concrete fashion built around the relationship between material, form and movement.
